Mr Schmuck had been in Epsom since at least 1891, when he and Annie were managing this same operation. However, in 1901 the Schmucks were in the Workmen’s Home at Horton Asylum, in charge of housekeeping and catering, which enterprise had been a partnership with one John Fiddyment, which was dissolved in 1900.

The Schmucks had an informally adopted son, Albert Henry Tinker, who was actually Mrs Schmuck’s nephew, and he was living with them in 1911. Albert died of influenza at Busigny, France in 1918.
